realizes all of civilization's ideals in his intimate experience: love,
freedom, truth, joy and the power of creation...
Where the body was stiff, weak and aching, now it is supple, strong,
and relaxed. Where the mind was scattered and absorbed by trivia, now
it is serene and easily trained on what is essential. Where the heart
was filled with dread and doubt, now it is filled with happiness and
confidence. Where the ego was anxious to take and defend, now it loyally
serves and allows...
Sexuality was charged with hunger, confusion and self-doubt, but now
it bristles with vitality, pleasure and confidence. Marriage was twisted
by hidden resentments and frozen by entrenched positions. But now marriage
blossoms in mutual esteem and respect, and flows like water in openness
to growth. Parenting was tinged with annoyance and guilt, but now it
glows with tenderness and pride. The contemplation of God brought feelings
of inadequacy and unworthiness, but now it brings feelings of ecstasy
and gratitude. Such is the passage from pain to pleasure at the return
of universal light to a darkened world.
